In 2023, there were around 4 million gas heating systems in Germany with a performance class of 11 to 25 kilowatts. That same year, there were around 5.74 million gas heating units in the country. Numbers have been decreasing in recent years. New German legislation which came into effect as of January 2024 confirms the gradual phasing out of oil and gas heating systems.

Information from around 7,700 authorized district chimney sweeps was the basis of this evaluation. The results were gathered on a federal level by the Federal Association of Chimney Sweeps.
